Abbeville Red Iris Alliance
2027 Palmetto Island State Park's Abbeville Red Bloom Event and Nature day
From Palmetto Island State Park:
"As part of its mission to raise awareness of the rare Abbeville Red iris and the unique ecosystem it depends upon, Palmetto Island State Park hosts a free annual Abbeville Red Iris Bloom Event each April at the park’s meeting room complex and boardwalk. (Park entrance fees apply.)
The annual bloom event continues to grow in both attendance and impact. In 2026, more than 200 people visited the boardwalk during the event to see the Abbeville Red iris in bloom and learn more about this remarkable native Louisiana plant and the habitat that supports it.
Looking Ahead to 2027
In 2027, the Abbeville Red Iris Bloom Event will expand into a broader celebration of nature, conservation, and Louisiana’s native habitats.
The expanded event is not intended to be a fundraising event—it is free. Its purpose is to bring people together around the Abbeville Red iris and its restoration, while also highlighting conservation efforts, habitat restoration, native plants, wildlife, and the remarkable natural resources found throughout our region.
We expect numerous nature, conservation, and habitat restoration organizations to participate in this expanded event. The Abbeville Red Iris Alliance and its member organizations will be actively involved in both the planning and organization of the event.
We invite everyone who cares about Louisiana’s great outdoors—and wants to help preserve its unique plants, wildlife, and natural habitats—to join us at Palmetto Island State Park on April 10, 2027. It’s a family-friendly event designed to be both fun and educational.
Come celebrate the Abbeville Red iris, discover more about Louisiana’s natural heritage, and learn how you can help conserve it for generations to come."
